Chapter One

It's not that easy, he said
Yeah, it's not that easy, she said

When you called me up saying that you meant what you said, it scared me out of my wits. It wasn't easy seeing my best friend doing this to me. Not again. Not when it happened before.

Everything was a blur, it all seemed to have happened so damned fast, too damned quickly. All I know was that the last person I saw before I blacked out was him. You, you’re the reason I cannot sleep at night. The reason why I toss and turn in bed, wishing that I had never had met this.

I don’t have much time to decide, and you don’t know. It hurts to even try to tell you how everything went. The MRI’s, the checkups, the results.

“Hey bummer!” he said.

“Hey trouble!” I replied.

“Want to get some ice-cream? I had a sudden craving for pistachio mint, whilst on the way here,”

“Sure, I’d love to get some gummy worms to go along with it!”

“I’ve got some great news to tell you! You won’t believe what just happened!”

“Oh-okay...”

As I walked next to him, I took note of what he was wearing. Anything he wears, he makes it look sophisticated. He could still throw on random clothes from his closet and still make it look 80% wearable. But, any day could be my last time standing next to him like this. Taking in his scent that I’m so used to.

“Lynn, hey...Earth to bummer-matter!...Did you hear what I was ranting on about?”

“Oh sorry, I dozed I guess,” I replied.

“Nah, it’s okay, the gist of it is that, I clinched a coffee date with Steph! Steph! Woohoo!” James replied, pumping his fist in the air. ”Score one for Troubleman!”

My heart couldn’t have plummeted further than is already had. It felt like it was sweeping the pavement full of gunk and filth. Everything that I had worked against, if failing back on me. Part of me wished that I had told him sooner...

“Congrats James, I truly am happy for you...”
